Hall Model 1
The inventor of the Hall Index Tyepwriter was Thomas Hall. His original patent was dated March 1, 1881 (patent number 238,387). According to the inventor, his intent in designing the Hall Index Tyepwriter was to "reduce the number of parts in typewriting machines and to reduce the size and cost as well." Hall accomplished his mission and gave the American typwriter industry its first successful index machine. There were three models of the Hall typewriter. The first two models were based on Hall's original patent in 1881. The third model, with Boston shown on the name-plate, was advertised as an "Improved Model" and was manufactured based on the second patent dated February 16, 1886. (more...)
